THIS CLASS IS FOR STUDENTS AGED 14 AND UP. Only 10 students per course. Life 1: Finding a job & interviewing In this module, we’re going to explore student’s skills, experience, and interests to build resumes. We’ll find jobs that will be used for the duration of the class. We’ll also talk about hourly wages vs. salaries, how to know what compensation expectations people should have based on market averages combined with experience. In this practical application, your student will have 1:1 interviewing experience! Life 2: Finding a Place to Live In this module, we’ll continue from Life 1 where students will take their "salaries" from the first module and figure out what sort of living situation they can afford based on their income and expenses. Life 3: Transportation Building off of the first two modules, every student will choose their mode of transportation that will be used for the duration of the course. We will price out new and used cars, look at the price of insurance, and talk about the difference between buying and leasing. Life 4: Food During this module, we will look at how to plan for meals. We'll work on a week of groceries and budget needed for our planned meals. We'll compare costs of grocery shopping to going out to eat and see the financial difference. Life 5: Building a Budget and the "Game of Life" In this module, we will take the salaries, transportation expenses, and house/rental payments, food expenses, and begin to build a budget. We’ll use a budget outline to input our income, expenses, and savings. We’ll finish this course by looking at some typical life experiences that affect our budgets which help and hurt us financially (promotions, car troubles, etc…). We'll work on looking at our budgets in a year's time and how much we've saved or spent on our various "purchases."
